Issue
Shadow PC no longer produces sound, even when the volume is unmuted and 100%.
Cause
Missing drivers or incorrect audio quality settings may prevent sound from working properly.
Solution
Follow these steps in order until the audio starts working correctly:
1. Check Shadow PC’s display mode
Ensure that Shadow PC is using the correct display output.
If you use dual-screen mode and wish to continue, you may skip this step.
- Start Shadow PC.
- After logging in to Windows, press Windows + P.
- Select PC Screen Only.
2. Change the audio format on Windows
Shadow recommends changing the default format on the Windows operating system to 16 bit, 48000 Hz (DVD Quality). See how Microsoft’s article for help trying different audio formats. The article also includes other audio troubleshooting steps we encourage you to try.
3. Update NVIDIA drivers
Updating NVIDIA drivers can resolve sound issues on Shadow PC. NVIDIA graphics drivers often include audio drivers, which may be missing or outdated. Driver updates may also fix compatibility issues and address bugs.
You can download NVIDIA drivers automatically or search for them manually on NVIDIA’s website.
4. Disconnect peripheral devices
Peripherals (e.g., headsets, microphones, controllers) connected to your local device may be incompatible or incorrectly configured for Shadow PC.
- Unplug or unpair peripheral devices.
- Test your sound.
- If you hear sound from your speakers:
- Install the latest drivers for your peripherals onto Shadow PC.
- Make sure microphones are not detected as speakers.
- Set the desired output device as the primary speaker.
