Firewalls are essential for protecting your computer from online threats, but if configured incorrectly, they may interfere with Shadow PC’s connection and performance.
To ensure optimal performance while maintaining security, configure your firewall settings on both your local computer and within your Shadow PC environment.
Note: If your internet connection is managed by an organization (such as a workplace or school), contact the network administrator for assistance.
Why Firewalls May Conflict with Shadow PC
Firewalls have strict rules that may block the ports and services Shadow PC relies on, leading to:
- Increased Latency: Slower performance and delays.
- Packet Loss: Reduced connection stability, causing choppy visuals or input lag.
- Software Malfunctions: The software installed on your Shadow PC, including games, services, and apps, may not run as expected.
How to Configure Your Firewall for Shadow PC
Follow these recommendations to ensure Shadow PC functions correctly while keeping your system secure.
Allow Shadow PC Through Your Firewall
Many firewalls allow you to create exceptions (also called an allowlist or exclusions list). To prevent your firewall from interfering with Shadow PC, add the following to the allowlist:
- The Shadow PC app on your local computer.
- Any relevant Shadow PC processes running within the Shadow PC environment.
Use Windows Defender Firewall
If you experience connection issues after installing a third-party firewall on Shadow PC, consider switching back to Windows Defender Firewall or adjusting the third-party firewall’s settings.
Shadow PC is optimized for use with Windows Defender, which minimizes the risk of compatibility issues.
Open Required Outbound Ports (Advanced)
This step is recommended only for advanced users or those troubleshooting persistent connection issues.
- Open Ports 8001 to 15299: Verify that all ports within this range are open. These ports are used by Shadow PC to manage its connection.
- Apply Rules to Both TCP and UDP Connections: Configure your firewall to allow both types of traffic on these ports.
- Set Rules for Outbound Connections Only: Restrict these settings to outbound traffic.
Note: Refer to your firewall software’s documentation for specific instructions.
