Issue
The issue occurs when the storage ordered for your Shadow PC does not appear or update as expected. This can happen to either the primary (C:) drive or the additional storage (D:) drive.
Cause
Storage upgrades may not appear if your Shadow PC was not shut down prior to the upgrade.
If Shadow PC is still running, shut it down and wait 1 to 2 hours before starting Shadow PC again. This waiting period helps ensure the new storage is properly registered and integrated into your system.
If the issue persists, follow the solutions below to manually initiate the new storage.
Solution
Use Disk Management to manually initiate your new storage:
- Start Shadow PC.
- Right-click the Start menu or press Win + X.
- Click Disk Management.
You'll see a list of your storage drives here. Disk 0 corresponds to the primary (C:) drive where Windows is installed. Disk 1 is the additional storage (D:) drive.
Resize the Additional Storage Drive
If you ordered additional storage, resize the additional disk by following these steps:
- Locate the primary partition of Disk 1.
- Right-click the partition, then click Extend Volume.
-
The Extend Volume Wizard will open. Click Next to proceed.
- Under Select Disks, you'll see the available unallocated space. Choose the maximum available space.
- Click Next to review your options.
-
Click Finish to complete the process.
Create a New Partition
- Locate the unallocated space - In the Disk Management window, identify the unallocated space on your disk. This space is typically labeled as "Unallocated".
- Initiate a New Simple Volume - Right-click on the unallocated space and choose New Simple Volume.
- Specify the volume size - In the New Simple Volume Wizard, specify the size of the volume you want to create in megabytes (MB). To use the entire unallocated space, accept the default maximum size.
- Do not assign a drive letter or path - Click Next to skip this step.
-
Format the Partition - Select the option to format the partition with the following settings:
-
File system: NTFS
-
Allocation unit size: Default
-
Volume label: Enter a name for the partition (e.g., "New Storage")
-
Check the box for Perform a quick format
-
- Complete the Wizard - Click Next, review your selections, and then click Finish to create the new partition.
Conclusion
Disk Management will now show your drives with the proper amount of space.
