If Shadow PC is displaying incorrect characters when you type, this is likely due to a mismatch between your local device's keyboard settings and those in Shadow PC. This guide provides instructions for correcting this issue by adjusting your keyboard settings.
Change the Keyboard Settings
If your local device and Shadow PC have different keyboard layouts or languages, it can result in unexpected characters or actions when typing. Ensure that both systems share the same keyboard language and/or layout to prevent these issues.
Windows
Follow these guides to change the layout on Shadow PC. You can also use the same guides for your local Windows computer.
macOS
Ensure your Mac's system language and keyboard layout are correctly configured. If you're using a French (AZERTY) Mac keyboard, additional steps are necessary to ensure compatibility with Shadow PC.
Verify System Language and Keyboard Layout
On your Mac, you can change your system language, which influences the keyboard layout. You can also add another language and switch between languages as needed.
For French (AZERTY) Mac Keyboards
The French Mac keyboard layout (AZERTY) differs from standard PC layouts and is not natively supported by Windows. This discrepancy can lead to incorrect character mapping when using Shadow PC. To resolve this, Shadow PC offers a "French Mac Keyboard Layout" setting that aligns the Mac's AZERTY layout with Windows, ensuring accurate input.
To enable this setting:
- Open the Shadow PC launcher.
- Navigate to General → Advanced Settings.
- Toggle on French Mac Keyboard Layout.
Activating this setting ensures that your French Mac keyboard functions correctly within the Windows environment of Shadow PC.
Mobile Devices
Change the language for your keyboard on your mobile device. The language settings will also impact the keyboard layout. For help modifying your keyboard layout, choose your operating system:
Change Your Default Keyboard
On Android and iOS devices, third-party keyboards can sometimes cause input issues. Try switching back to your device's default keyboard to see if that resolves the problem or uninstall the third-party keyboard you installed.
If the issue continues even with the default keyboard, contact your device manufacturer (eg, Samsung, Google, Apple) for support.
Remap Your Keyboard
Sometimes, even with the correct keyboard layout selected, certain keys on your physical keyboard might not produce the expected characters in Shadow PC. Keyboard remapping allows you to redefine the function of specific keys, so you can correct these individual key mappings.
To remap your keyboard on Shadow PC, we recommend one of these options:
- Check Microsoft's guide on keyboard remapping .
- Download and install SharpKeys .
- See other recommendations from PCMag .
These tools allow you to change which character or function a specific key sends to Shadow PC. For example, if the "@" symbol key on your keyboard is producing a different character, you can use remapping to correct it.
