Share a file with Shadow Drive

Updated

Shadow Drive allows you to store, share, and synchronize your files and folders.

This article will focus on one of the main feature options, which is to share your files and folders.

Note: The following features are not available for the moment:

  • Internal links.

  • See users with access to your link.

You can share files and folders via public links. A random 15-digit token will be created.

The link will look like https://download.drive.shadow.tech/s/Wrj7eYGdTAwk4Zf.

See below which options are available according to the platform that you use. All of our Shadow Drive applications can be downloaded on our website: https://shadow.tech/download

Desktop Clients

We recommend going through the Web version of Shadow Drive if you want to manage and share your files.

However, you can quickly share the last files that were synchronized by opening your Desktop client.

In the main dialog, click the three dots button next to the file you want to share to generate a link.

Shadow Drive Web Version

By accessing the Web version of Shadow Drive, you can share links to your files and create several links with different rules per file.

If you are in the grid view:

To generate a share link, click the three dots button below the file you want to share then click "Share" or "Shared".

If you are in the list view:

Click the Share button or click on "shared" next to the file you want to share.

This will open a side menu.

You can directly share your file by email by adding an email address in the search bar or generating a link that you can share manually:

Note: For the moment, it is only possible to share directly your file to email addresses.

If you have not created a share link yet:

Click the + button next to Share link then choose an expiration date to generate a new link.

When you have already created a link:

After creating any link, you can add the following options to it by clicking the three dots button that appeared next to Share link:

  • Add a label: this allows you to differentiate your links if you created several links per file.

  • Allow editing: the recipient can or cannot edit the file.

  • Hide download: this hides the download buttons and the default browser right-click options in order to make downloading for the recipient harder.

  • Password protect: the recipient will have to provide a password in order to access the file.

  • Note to recipient: add a comment to send to the recipient alongside the file.

  • Note: If you add a note after sending the link by email, the recipient will receive a new email with the note.

  • Unshare: this allows you to make the link inacessible by the recipients who received the link.

  • Add another link: this allows you to create a different share link with different properties for the same file.
