Introduction
Color Enhancement is a feature on Shadow PC that uses 4:4:4 technology to preserve full-color detail. When enabled, Shadow PC transmits color information without chroma subsampling, resulting in a stream that stays true to its original appearance with sharper text and more accurate colors.
How to enable Color Enhancement
To enable this option on your device:
- Open the Shadow PC launcher.
- Go to Settings.
- In Video & Display, click Advanced Settings.
- Scroll down to Color Enhancement (4:4:4).
- Click the toggle to turn Color Enhancment on.
This feature is not available on Android, Android TV, and Shadow VR. For Apple TV, the H.265 codec must be enabled in your launcher settings.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with Color Enhancement, try disabling the feature or lowering your resolution to 1920 × 1080 at 60Hz. Keep in mind that the benefits of Color Enhancement may not be noticeable if your display doesn’t support 4:4:4 chroma subsampling or if the content itself is unable to take advantage of it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is Color Enhancement disabled by default?
Color Enhancement requires more resources than our standard video encoding (4:2:0), which was designed to reduce the amount of data used. To ease any problems this might cause for our users, the feature is disabled by default but can be enabled at any time.
When should I enable Color Enhancement?
Whether to enable Color Enhancement depends on your personal preference and system resources. This feature utilizes 4:4:4 chroma subsampling, a technology favored by photographers, animators, graphic designers, and other digital artists who require precise color accuracy and sharp image quality. However, this will require more bandwidth and consumes more data.
