Set up a PS4 controller on Shadow

Updated

Sony PlayStation 4 (PS4) wired and Bluetooth controllers are supported by our Windows, macOS, iOS and Android apps, as well as Shadow Ghost and Shadow Box. Additional configuration may often be required to help Shadow recognize your controller.

📌 Before you begin:

  • Close the Shadow app if you are on a local device.

  • Use an official PlayStation Dualshock® controller. Unofficial PS4 controllers may not work properly with your Shadow.

Connection via USB

To connect a PS4 controller to your device:

  1. Use a Micro-USB cable to connect your PS4 controller to your PC or TV.

  2. On your computer or TV, plug in your controller.

  3. Turn on your PS4 controller.

  4. Start your application and open the Quick Menu to see if your controller is present in the peripherals tab.

📝 Notes:

  • Plug the PS4 controller into a blue USB 3.0 port, if possible. Some PS4 controller features, such as vibration, are not available over USB 2.0.

  • Mobile devices may require Bluetooth setup or a USB On-The-Go (OTG) cable.

  • If your computer does not have Bluetooth, it is possible to connect a PlayStation Dualshock®4 controller using the official wireless adapter.

Connection via Bluetooth

To pair your PS4 controller wirelessly with a Bluetooth-enabled device:

  1. Activate Bluetooth on your device.

  2. Press and hold the PS and Share buttons on your PS4 controller to make your device discoverable. When the controller is ready to pair, the light bar will flash quickly.

  3. Use your device's Bluetooth feature to find and pair your wireless controller.

  4. On Shadow Ghost, follow the instructions in this article: Configure a Bluetooth device on the Shadow Ghost.

To help you pair your controller to your devices, please follow the instructions described from the corresponding links:

To troubleshoot issues

Test your connection

Your connection must be able to send key presses from your controllers with as little latency as possible. Most controllers require a 15 Mbps connection and a latency of less than 30ms.

🚨 Warning: Any third party software or hardware mentioned in this article is not sponsored, distributed by, or licensed to Shadow. The use of additional software or hardware does not guarantee that your Sony PlayStation 4 controller will be compatible with Shadow or your device.
