How to Connect a Microphone to Shadow

Updated

Shadow is compatible with most microphones. To enable the microphone feature, use the Quick Menu, Settings, or turn on USB peripherals. Make sure to Test Your Microphone on Shadow once you've finished setup.

🎉 Update: As of March 2021, Shadow supports microphones on Android and iOS. See how to enable the microphone on your Android or iOS device.

For Windows & macOS

  1. Test your microphone using your local device first.
Shadow may not detect your microphone if it doesn't work on your device.

  2. Start Shadow.

  3. Once Shadow has started, open the Shadow Quick Menu.

    To open the Quick Menu:

    • Windows: Alt + Win + O

    • macOS: Cmd + Options + O

  4. Click the Microphone tab to enable and forward your microphone.

    • Click the checkbox next to Enable microphone (A)

    • Select your microphone from the list of input devices (B)

Using USB Peripherals

If you're using a USB microphone or headset, you can enable USB Peripherals in Shadow, then choose your device from the Quick Menu.

📝 Note: If you connect the microphone from the USB Peripheral menu, disable it in the Microphone tab. You should only use one method or the other.

To connect your microphone using USB Peripherals:

  1. Shut Down your Shadow.
Click the Help Help_icon.png icon, then Shut Down Shadow.

📝 Note: You may need to give Shadow permission to use your microphone. Follow the prompts on your screen to allow this feature.

When successfully enabled, Shadow will automatically start using the microphone connected to your device. For example, if you have AirPods connected when the microphone is enabled, Shadow will detect your AirPods.

Test Your Microphone

Using Shadow, launch your favorite VoiP app, in-game chat, recording software, or see Microsoft's article on how to set up and test microphones in Windows 10. Use your device to make sure it's working.

If your microphone still isn't working:

  1. Right-click the Sound Icon on the taskbar and choose Sounds
