Use your Controller/Gamepad as a Mouse on your Shadow PC

Functionality of the Gamepad as a Mouse

The Gamepad as a Mouse feature empowers users to navigate their Shadow interface using a game controller, which is ideal for sofa-based interactions without a regular mouse.

Originally designed for Android TV and tvOS, this feature is also available for desktop and mobile platforms.

To activate this functionality, connect a compatible controller to your local device.

Note: Ensure that a connected controller is available to use this feature.

To use this feature, you'll need to download the required Shadow applications, and have a compatible game controller (Gamepad).

Additionally, your devices must conform to our requirements, and you should have a stable internet connection.​​

How to set up Gamepad as a Mouse?

Connect a controller to your Shadow PC.

If no controllers are detected, enablement is not possible.

Refer to our Controller on Shadow article for further guidance on enabling your controller.

Log in and launch your Shadow PC app on your local device by clicking “Start”.

Once Shadow starts, click on the Shadow logo quickmenu.png located at the top of the screen, or press the Quick Menu shortcut:

  • Windows : ALT + WIN + O

  • macOS : ALT + CMD + O

  • Linux : ALT + SUPER + O

Under the Controllers & USB section, enable Gamepad as Mouse.

Once enabled, you can use your Gamepad as a Mouse.

Connect a controller to your Shadow PC.

IIf no controllers are detected, this feature cannot be enabled.

You will need to connect your controller first.

Log in and launch your Shadow PC app on your mobile device by clicking “Start”.

Once Shadow starts, click on the Shadow logo quickmenu.png located at the top of the screen.

Click on the Gamepad logo to enable this feature. Once enabled, you can use your Gamepad as a Mouse.

Connect a controller to your Shadow PC.

IIf no controllers are detected, this feature cannot be enabled.

You will need to connect your controller first.

Log in and launch your Shadow PC app on your androidTV or on your tvOS device by clicking “Start”.

Once Shadow starts, open the settings menu. Scroll down to activate Gamepad as Mouse.

Once enabled, your Gamepad functions as a Mouse.

Note:A notification will appear when Gamepad as a Mouse is enabled or disabled. Use the shortcut + to toggle this feature.

How to use Gamepad as a Mouse?

Once The Gameplad as a Mouse has been set up, you will be able to manage your inputs directly from your Controller.

The table below outlines the functionality of each button.

Known issues

Your cursor needs to be locked in order to use Gamepad as a Mouse.

If you unlock your cursor, the function will be disabled.

You can lock your cursor from the Quick Menu:

To open the Quick Menu, start Shadow PC and click the Shadow PC icon at the top of the screen.

If you can't see the icon, the Quick Menu is disabled or incompatible with this device. Try using keyboard shortcuts to use Quick Menu commands.

Lock or unlock cursor

Switches between these two modes:

Locked cursor: the cursor stays within the Shadow window. Recommended for playing.

Unlocked cursor: The cursor can be moved outside the Shadow window. Recommended for office use.
