Shadow Drive Desktop Client Features & Settings

Updated

Shadow Drive is available on the following desktop apps:

  • Windows

  • MacOS

  • Linux

The Desktop app can be used to set up your synchronization settings in detail, unlike the browser version which mainly allows you to go through your existing files, edit, and share them.

Before we explore the extensive features and settings of Shadow Drive desktop apps, you might be interested in:

Client Main Interface

Upon opening the Shadow Drive desktop application, a small window will open up on your screen.

At the bottom, you will find a list of the recent files that were synchronized via Shadow Drive. Errors with synchronization will also be listed here.

At the top right corner, you can click the 4 logos to access the following shortcuts:

Note: If you have already synchronized a folder with Shadow Drive, you will also find a folder icon that lets you access the folder that you synchronized first to Shadow Drive.

At the top left corner, you can click your profile name to open a dropdown menu with the following options:

  • Log out or remove a specific account linked to this desktop by clicking the 3 dots button next to a profile name.

  • Add a linked account to this desktop.

  • Pause sync for all

  • Settings (see the following section).

  • Exit to close the client.

Settings (Main Page)

Upon opening the Settings window, you will be directed to the Account files overview, presenting the synchronized drive.

Under your synchronized folders, you will be able to synchronize a new folder by clicking "Add Folder Sync Connection".

Note: Using virtual files when synchronizing is not available for the time being. Our teams are working on bringing this feature.

On the right, you can click the 3 dots button "" to do the following range of actions:

  • Open Folder: Access your synchronized drive on your computer by selecting and clicking on it.

  • Edit Ignored Files: Set up your synchronization preferences by managing ignored files.

  • Create New Folder: Organize your files by creating new folders directly from the desktop client.

  • Force Sync Now: Initiate an immediate synchronization of your files.

  • Pause Sync: Temporarily halt the synchronization process for specific needs.

  • Remove Folder Sync Connection: Disconnect folders from synchronization with ease.

  • Availability: Optimize local storage by freeing up space through this feature.

Note: Virtual Files are not available for the time being, so it is not possible to enable or disable them. Our teams are working on bringing this feature.

Settings (General)

On top of your Settings window, you can click " General" in order to access the general settings.

In this menu, you can make Shadow Drive work the way you want. Decide if it should start when your computer does, get notifications from the server, and manage call alerts. It's where you can personalize how Shadow Drive fits into your routine.

It is divided into several sections:

General Settings

  • Launch on System Startup: Optimize convenience by setting the application to launch on system startup.

  • Show Server Notification: Toggle to display notifications arriving from the server.

  • Show Call Notification: Keep an eye on call notifications when this feature is enabled.

⚠️For the moment, this feature is disabled. Our teams are working to bring a videoconferencing module with Shadow Drive.

Advanced Settings

  • Ask for Confirmation Before Synchronizing Folder Larger Than [ ]MB: A precautionary measure for external folders, ensuring user confirmation for large files.

⚠️ This only applies to folders that are external, so, standard folders will get synced no matter how small the value of MBs you set.

  • Ask for Confirmation Before Synchronizing External Storage: Confirm folders on the server's external storage before synchronization. If it is checked, you will have to confirm which folders need to be synchronized. External folders have a different icon and look like a drive instead of a folder.

  • Show Sync Folder in Explorer's Activation Pane: Choose whether to display or hide the Shadow Drive folder in your files explorer.

  • Edit Ignored Files: Set up your synchronization preferences by managing ignored files.

  • Create Debug Archive: Assist in troubleshooting by retrieving logs to send to the developers for debugging.
